What can you do for Library Fundraising Ideas

Libraries are in constant need of funds to buy and maintain books, computer equipment and microfilm. Despite the popularity of kindles and other electronic reading gadgets, libraries still need to house a copy of new books published and this requires increased space while also permitting open areas for computer study, database lookup, DVDs and to offer new programs. All this would not, of course, be possible without the help of knowledgeable staff. So how can libraries raise these funds to maintain, upgrade and replace equipment? What can you do for library Fundraising Ideas?

A Charity Cookbook: Even with television cooking shows and on line recipes, nothing can replace a good old cookbook chock full of homemade recipes and who better to compile this book but your local librarians! Employees could each submit their favorite dish with the story behind it (they are librarians!) and solicit other recipes from family members. The book would be compiled and sold at the library with a note that any funds received benefit the community.

Room Rental: How often have you needed a small space to host a meeting? Libraries are the perfect place! They could advertise their available space for rent in local publications at a discounted rate and at a standard rate for organizations further afield. It would be easy income, with very little effort. It would also bring people into the library who might not otherwise have been, generating more interest in the local facilities.

Design a Bookmark Competition: What a wonderful way to bring the community together and stir up those competitive juices! Advertise a bookmark competition with a small entry fee. The winning design would be given out to every patron of the library at time of check out. The competition should be open to all ages and judged accordingly. There could even be a bookmark ‘hall of fame’ where patrons are reminded of their win years later!
